General dentistry includes all the dental repair work that does not involve actual tooth replacement. In most cases, this is restorative dentistry, with the goal of preserving your existing teeth by repairing them, rather than replacing them. Filling cavities, custom-made inlays and onlays, dental crowns, and root canal therapy are all part of restorative dentistry.

Our General Dentistry Services

Tooth Fillings

Tooth fillings replace decayed or damaged tooth material in cases where the cavity or damage is relatively small. In addition to protecting the tooth from further decay and the resulting pain for the patient, dental fillings can reduce sensitivity by covering areas that have lost their protective enamel.

Dental Crowns

Crowns are synthetic tooth caps, made of ceramic, porcelain, or metal fused to porcelain. A crown forms an artificial replacement for the upper part of a tooth and covers the original tooth.

Dental Inlays & Onlays

A dental inlay or onlay is like a very large dental filling, used to strengthen and repair decayed, cracked, or fractured rear teeth. An inlay (as its name suggests) is applied in a tooth; an onlay is placed on a tooth.

Root Canals

When the interior of a tooth has become decayed or damaged beyond simple repair, typically the only options are to extract the tooth or to perform endodontic therapy, otherwise known as a root canal. Root canals are performed by dental care professionals on individuals who would like to preserve the natural tooth instead of removing it and then replacing it with an implant or another synthetic tooth.

Tooth Extractions

Dr. Dorfman also does tooth extractions, which may be needed when teeth are too decayed to be repaired. A tooth may also be extracted in preparation for orthodontics, for tooth replacement, or in the unusual case of a tooth getting in the way of other teeth.
