If you have dental misalignment issues, you can easily benefit from Invisalign. Unless you are not an Invisalign candidate. Learn if it’s right for you!
Most people with dental misalignment issues find Invisalign to a more pleasant alternative over metal braces. However, Invisalign is not for everyone. If you have one or more of the following dental conditions, your dentist will likely to tell you that you are not an Invisalign candidate.
1. Having Calculus or Calcified Teeth
Calculus are calcified plaques that formed around your teeth. Once they are in place, they are difficult to remove without a visit to the dentists office. Calculus blocks the movement of teeth, rendering the your Invisalign treatment ineffective.
Fortunately, calculus can easily be removed with dental instruments.Once they are out of place, you will be free to proceed with your Invisalign treatment.
2. Severe Bone Loss
Bone loss is the result of periodontal disease. When you lose a large amount of jaw bone, your teeth become loosely anchored. The pressure applied by Invisalign aligners will cause a slight loss of bone. It is fine for people with healthy amount of bone level, but can be detrimental for those who are already suffering from severe bone loss.
3. If You Have Dental Implants
Implants are securely installed into your bone. Therefore, they cannot be moved. It does not automatically disqualify you from receiving Invisalign treatment. While implants cannot be moved, the teeth around them can. However, if you have more implants than natural teeth, you are not an Invisalign candidate. This is because implants block the movement of adjacent teeth. If you need Invisalign as well as implants, have your teeth straightened FIRST, then proceed with implant.
