Clean Invisalign aligners using common household items. Easy and effective.
There are many companies that offer cleaning solution for Invisalign aligners. The problem is they are expensive and perhaps just as effective as cleansers you can find in your house. So why not save a few bucks by following the simple instructions below, and clean Invisalign aligners yourself?
What you will need to clean your aligners:
-Cup
–Hydrogen Peroxide
-Tooth Brush
–Sonicare Tooth Brush (Optional)
Step 1:
Rinse your Invisalign aligners with warm water over the sink. This removes saliva and debris in your aligners, making things easier for the next step.
Step 2:
Pour 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in a cup, and soak your aligners in the solution for 30 minutes. Hydrogen Peroxide is known for its antiseptic and bleaching properties. Not only it kills the germs on your aligners, it also turns it clean and shiny. Moreover, it has very low toxicity and very easy to rinse off, so it is the best thing to use on something that you put in your mouth.
*Note: Do not soak your aligners in mouth wash or bleach. Mouth wash will dye your aligners green and blue, and bleach is toxic to consume. Some people suggest to soak aligners in vinegar, but it leaves a terrible taste afterwards. You can clean invisalign aligners using denture tablets, but some brands can turn your aligners cloudy overtime, so use it sparingly.
Step 3:
Rinse the aligners over the sink again, and brush it thoroughly with a toothbrush. The most ideally, use a Sonicare toothbrush. The ultrasonic vibration really breaks up plaque build-up, and its a lot easier on your hand. It is a very good investment for Invisalign patients as it is a great toothbrush and also a great aligner cleaning tool. Most dental offices sell them at a discounted price.
Optionally, you can brush it with toothpaste to give it some freshness.
After the procedure, your Invisalign aligners should be clean and shiny, and ready to improve your smile.
