Invisalign & Transparency

How invisible is Invisalign? This is probably the one of the most inquired questions during a consultation. Obviously, it matters a lot as most people choose Invisalign over metal braces for aesthetic reasons. Let’s answer the question by examining the two key features of Invisalign.

Invisalign is made of transparent plastics

Invisalign aligners are made of highly transparent clear plastics. Therefore, the color of your teeth will look exactly the same as if you are not wearing anything. From a conversational distance, they are totally invisible to the naked eyes. Even if you whiten your teeth, the aligners will still look the same on your teeth.

Invisalign are custom fitted

The aligners are custom fitted trays, meaning they take on the shape of your teeth. Unless the person has extensive experience with Invisalign (Our staff for example), it is nearly impossible for them to notice any difference on a daily interaction. There is a catch though. If you are not wearing your aligners 22 hours a day, your teeth will not fit perfectly into your next tray. When that happens, you will see a subtle space between you teeth and your aligners. Not only it affects the appearance, it can seriously undermine your dental health.

Invisalign can be stained

Lastly, aligners can be stained if you don’t follow the proper guidelines. They can turn yellow/brown if you smoke, or consume colored foods or beverages while wearing your aligners. But if you take good care of your aligners, they will stay invisible at least until you need to switch to your next trays.
